PRODUCTION

Production refers to the actual making of the opening title sequence, on the day of our shoot.

HARDWARE

On the day of the shoot we used a Black Magic 4K Mini URSA to shoot our sequence, this was the camera we used during our workshops in pre-production which meant that we knew how to operate it correctly. We further used a Sennheiser shotgun microphone, vinten tripod and Lexar Pro memory card. To set up our camera safely and efficiently we extended our tripod and secured it, we then secured the camera on the tripod plate, and we then inserted the microphone xlr into audio input one. Once the camera was set up on the tripod we then bubbled the tripod so that it was level and then altered the exposure setting on the camera by adjusting the exposure ring on the lens, we did this so that the lighting looked right in the woods, although in some darker areas of the woods we had to use a light box in order to match the lighting to the rest of the sequence, helping the continuity element. During our shoot day, we used a combination of filming on the tripod as well as handheld angles, the use of the handheld element created suspense through the use of the following element. Additionally, filming on the tripod allowed to pan and tilt the camera, which helped create tension whereby we introduced our protagonist by panning from the antagonist to the protagonist who is closer in the depth of field therefore I had to use the focus pull on the camera in order to maintain focus on each character.

A focus pull is when the focus changes during a continuous shot, we had to practice when the focus element would change prior to the shot, so that we got it right, but it meant that another member of my group operated the pan of the camera and I had to adjust the focus in order to make it focus on a separate character.

We used the Sennheiser Shotgun Microphone as well as the inbuilt microphone on the Black Magic 4K Mini URSA camera, despite having little dialgoue this added microphone helped to pick up the dialogue we did have as well as the ambiente sounds of the forest. We didn't have a sound operator, although we tended to take it in turn for one of use to hold the microphone, whereby we had to hold it as close to the action as we could, without getting it in the shot.

ONLINE AND SOFTWARE

ONLINE

We used the application Whatsapp on the day of the shoot, in order to communicate with one and other to ensure we were all well prepared and ready to shoot the sequence. I further used my notes on my phone in order to keep track of everything we did and then write a review of the shoot on Blogger.

SOFTWARE

During the production of our shoot we used the email application in order to update our cast on timings and what was necessary from them, e.g what they needed to bring and how long we needed them for. We further created a shot list on google docs so that we all had a visual understanding on what shots were necessary and the order we were going to shoot in, this proved very important on the day off the shoot as all of the cast and crew knew what they had to do and when.
